The 5th Annual General Meeting of your Association was held last Sunday, August 10, 2014 at the Municipal Hall of Bouchette. Despite the beautiful weather, more conducive to recreation, nearly thirty members attended the presentation of the reports of the President and Treasurer and proceeded to the adoption of the 2014-2015 Action Plan. In addition, participants elected the Board of Directors in renewing the mandate of six outgoing members which are: MM. Robert Beauchamp, Theo Geraets, Leslie Jutasi, Denis Lacroix, Eddy Margat and Malcolm Mcculloch. Newcomers to the Board, Mrs. Guylaine Gévry and Mr. Daniel Carle were also elected.
President Robert Beauchamp, thanked the members of the outgoing Board and re-elected for the good work they have done throughout the past year to protect the lake. He also highlighted the excellent work done by three people, Mrs Susan Daly and Johane Poirier and Mr Michel Payette who left the Board.
After the meeting, Mrs Julie Deschênes, a biologist with the Ministry of Forestry, Wildlife and Parks, presented an overview of the Lake trout Management Plan 2014-2020 of his ministry and the specific data forThirty-one Mile Lake. Despite some methodological concerns raised by a person who was not a member of the association and that we allowed to attend the presentation, results of the analysis confirmed the findings of the Board members about the status of lake trout in our lake. Moreover, these data also in favor of the Board members in relation to their initiative calling for the closure of the winter fishing on the lake. In conclusion, the President recalled that despite the inconveniences arising from the ban of winter fishing, the fact remains that the scientific data collected for the 31 Miles Lake are sufficient concerns to the precautionary principle applies as a low cost way to maintain this important resource.
